How to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Every Believer who has received Christ can be filled with or baptized with the Holy Spirit and speak with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives the utterance or the ability to speak a new language (Acts 2:4). The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is received by faith in the name of Jesus Christ. Tongues are the initial physical sign of the indwelling presence of God in the believer. Joel 2:28, Mark 16:15-18, John 4:13, 14; 7:37-39, Acts 1:8; 2:1-4

Step 1 - Repentance

Repentance is the first step in receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Repentance means to have a change of heart and mind from sin and a self-ruled life. Many so - called professing Christians have really never repented and have not truly become followers of Jesus. Repentance is never effective when it's just lip - service. It must be a heart decision to leave the former life in order to walk with Christ. Serving Christ is more than just saying words, but requires action behind the words we speak. Talk is cheap! Repentance from the heart should accompany one's faith in Christ and water baptism. John the Baptist preached repentance. Jesus proclaimed it and commanded that repentance and remission of sins be preached in "His name" among all nations. Mark 16:16, Luke 24:47, Acts 2:38; 4:12, II Corinthians 7:10
I John1:9 - If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Step 2 - Know what the word of God says about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Many times we have been taught things out of tradition and not solely from the word of God. Faithful men and women of God who have had good intentions of practicing religious traditions that they thought to be true, however the scripture has never really supported these traditions. It is imperative that you know what the Bible clearly teaches about the Baptism of the Holy with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. Know that you don't have the power to change your life. You need the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit to help you clean up your life. Repent and then know that the Holy Spirit is for you because the word of God has promised Him to you.

Acts 2:38 - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (v.39) For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

John 7:37 - In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (V.38) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

Step 3 - Disregard all doubt, worry and fear about receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Disregard all doubts worries and fears about receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. After you have heard the word and know that it is God's will, don't allow the devil to deceive you on the promise that God has for you. The devil doesn't want you to receive this gift, because he knows your life will never be the same again. You will begin to receive a fulfillment in your life like nothing you have experienced before. Don't allow foolish people to cheat you out of what God wants you and every other person to have. Unlearned and Unspiritual people will tell you that this gift is not for everybody or that God has done away with tongues. Individuals who have never experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit are not qualified to speak on the subject. This spiritual experience is personal in nature and cannot be acquired just through mental assent. Again, Acts 2:39 says this promise is for all who would dare to believe it!

Luke 11:11 - If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? (V.12) Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? (V.13) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

I Timothy 1:7 - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Step 4 - Confess and expect to receive!

Once your faith has been released to receive you will speak in tongues as the spirit gives the utterance or language. The Holy Spirit will act on your vocal cords, lips, and tongue and He will allow supernatural words to flow through your mouth. So put your faith to action and let the Holy Spirit speak out of you. You will do the speaking. However He will give you the words.

Acts 2:4 - And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 10:44 - While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. (V.45) And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. (v.46) For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

Acts 19:6 - And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
